Valentine's Dog Day Afternoon...

Say hello to my not-so-little friend!

I have a new dog.

Three weeks ago, we had a high speed car chase with a stolen car down our street.  The thieves ditched the car and, took off on foot. The police brought in dogs and began a house-to-house search.

Katie dog. Curious and adorable? Yes. Ferocious? Not so much.

I was terrified... knowing that Katie wouldn't alert me to any unusual noise.  So, I decided to adopt a big dog. Cara, a Giant Schnauzer, arrived on Monday. So how's it going? Well.... here's where we were on Day 2 in the new life of Cara and Glenny:

  • We both slept soundly last night... after a nervous day for each of us.
  • Having Cara and property that is only surrounded by an invisible fence, means Glenny is taking long walks in the woods.  At an early hour. (Cara will not be introduced to the fence until she feels "at home").
  • Kitties that were hidden all day and evening yesterday, decided to make a cautious appearance.  I held Cara while my friend Liz assured Tillie cat that Cara was not a threat.  Never one to trust a human, Tillie gave Cara a quick swat on the nose.  Cara now gives all three of them a WIDE path.  Kitties rule!
  • Cara is very goofy...which I love.  After breakfast, she picked up Katie's dish and brought it to me..not sure what she was saying!
  • Just got to get the potty training down....

So far, so good. Did I mention I'm in love? Ahhhh, those furry, four legged babies. Love them all.

Happy Valentines to all my furry and non-furry friends and family!

Got Safari Tickets? It's a Mixed Media Jungle Out There!

Hello Creativity Adventurers! Have you signed up for our Kansas City, MO Art & Soul event yet? I just wanted to pop in and make sure you got your virtual "tickets" for this retreat as registration is nearing its close and we don’t want you to miss out on this artistic adventure. And although we do things a little bit different here at Art & Soul — meaning that we actually keep some spaces available until the actual day of the class — we do have an internal deadline we honor with each of our instructors. This  ensures that they are able to plan for and order supplies, get a reasonable airfare, and prepare their exciting curriculum for all you creative souls who are coming.

So if you’ve considered attending at our Kansas City, MO Art & Soul Retreat, you have until February 20th to pick out the workshops you’d like to take — after that, classes may be limited. So treat yourself to a respite of creativity where you’ll connect with like-minded individuals and explore new possibilities in art. Come and join us for a mixed media adventure!

And don’t forget, we offer Art & Soul gift certificates in any denomination! So tell your sweetheart you want the gift of creativity this Valentine’s Day!

Those that understand, teach...

Aristotle once said, "Those who know, do. Those that understand, teach."

You know, lots of posts we do talk about what a great time the attendees have at Art & Soul's various retreats, but maybe you didn't know that the workshop instructors have just as much fun as the students! And it's actually one of the many reasons why Art & Soul has been a destination for creative souls for over a decade. The pride that our teachers take in passing on their knowledge and guiding you through a new artistic adventure is just as important to them as it is for all of you on the learning side of things.

The lovely and talented Erin Keck recently made a video showcasing some of the classes she's taught at Art & Soul, featuring some very excited students... so we thought we'd share it with you. An Assemblage Artist residing in Mechanicsburg, PA, Erin's artwork results from re-purposing found, discarded objects. She loves to breathe new life into castaways from yesteryear.

Erin will be teaching this year at our Kansas City, Missouri retreat, as well as our Virginia Beach Art & Soul... AND... at our Portland, Oregon event too! With everything from vintage tin art dolls to upcycled antique chimes to Steampunk art and jewelry, you'll find Erin's workshops simply riveting!
