Keeler Winery at Portland Vendor Night...

We are thrilled to have Keeler Estate Vineyards with us once again for private wine tasting and sales during our Vendor Night shopping event. Located in Amity, Oregon, Keeler is a truly magical place consisting of a thriving biodynamic vineyard, gardens, forest, lakes, streams, and acres of gorgeous landscaping. Their fruits grow in the sedimentary, shallow soils of an ancient ocean bed and are kissed by the sun and blessed with the cooling afternoon ocean winds during the warm ripening season. Their wines are an exquisite reflection of the ecosystem they are grown in and the Keeler's love of and dedication to the beauty of nature and all of it's processes.

Also at our Vendor Night event, we're going to have a special Highland-inspired surprise for those who attend. We can't tell you what it is, but you'll definitely want to come and stay for awhile!

Virginia Beach... An "Event-ful" Trip!

Well, folks... we had another great event at Art & Soul Virginia Beach this year! Just as we wrapped up our Kansas City event, it was practically time to start packing for this trip! And what a great time it was. I mean... look at the view from the hotel balcony! And the weather was very cooperative this year. Hooray!

The opening night party put on by The Bead Goes On was a great icebreaker for the event. Everyone showed up in their safari best and enjoyed themed food, jungle decor, and wonderful goodies from our sponsor. It was a great way to relax, meet other students and teachers, as well as have a little fun before the creative classes began.

Did I mention having a little fun? Well... um... yeah. We did. And Marie is always there to rescue me if I've been "hanging around" for too long! Gotta get a good night's sleep so I'm well rested for the official opening day!

So here I am in the "office"... our little makeshift area where we check you in for your classes. And  there's a lot less of me than there was last year... after all the weight I've lost. Yay me!

This venue seems to bring out the best in everyone. The bayside waves lapping at our doorsteps and the smell of salt in the air just remind you to slow down and enjoy the moment. And that's really what Art & Soul is all about... being in the moment. Enjoying the journey. Soaking up new ideas and techniques like a sea sponge! It's easy to do here. Just look at the results!

Whether you were waxing poetic in Serena Barton's class or...

...waxing collaged houses in Stephanie Rubiano's workshop, the sweet smell of beeswax had everyone abuzz!

Lots of time? How about trying your hand at a Steampunk clock, like Sheila, who came all the way from Key West, Florida to stretch her creativity!

How about jewelry making with a bang? Lynne Suprock showed her students how to use shotgun shells to create these "charming" rings!

And speaking of charming... isn't this Chandelier from Sally Jean Alexander's Mini Ella class just divine? The photo is a little out of focus but this student's work wasn't. How fabulous! Absolutely gorgeous!

And boy, do we treat our babies well at Art & Soul! They're all bottle fed around here. Whoops! Wait a minute... is that a heat gun? Of course it is. These vintage dolls are getting an upcycling in Clarissa Callesen's Steampunk Sally workshop.

Got mold? No, not that kind... the good kind! Molds you can use over and over and over and over again after you create tons of them in Ty and Marcia Schultz' class. The wheels are turning just thinking about all the ways I could use them!

Shhhhhh. Quiet. Sometimes what you hear when you walk into a classroom here is nothing. Not a peep. And that, my friends is the sound of creative concentration. (whispering...) Can you hear it?

Oh, what shall I do next? Where shall I go from here? So many possibilities! So much fun in Mindy Lacefield's Journal Play class. Mindy puts the wheeee in whimsical!

And there was some Delectable Doodling going on in Kari McKnight's class! Just look at that juicy journal fodder. Yum!

And painting...

And clay figure making...

And of course vendor night is always a fun frenzy! Shopping for vintage bits and baubles as well as finished artwork from several of our very own instructors is a magical time for us mixed media mavens. I know I go around at least 3 or 4 times... just to make sure I didn't miss anything!

We also had a rockin' on-site store thanks to Judy Gula and Artistic Artifacts. Fun demos from Ken with Spellbinders... we even snuck in a late night pajama party! Wow! So thanks again to everyone... the gracious hotel staff, my right hand chicks, the teachers, the attendees, and everyone else who made this such a spectacular time. Until Portland...

Hugs,
Glenny

Virginia Beach... Things to Bring & Lots of Shopping!

Well, kiddos... it's almost here! Virginia Beach Art & Soul kicks off tomorrow and we've got so many wonderful workshops, exciting events and good times planned for you.

So to get you all excited about your creative adventure, we thought we'd share a couple things with you that we get asked a lot....

First, "what should I bring in my 'Basic Supply Kit'?" is one of our topmost questions. We consider this like your creative purse... of sorts. Stuff you'll probably need or that you wish you had on hand — in a pinch — while you're here. So, on the right here... is what we think are the top items you might need in your magic bag! So, in addition to your specific workshop supplies, you may want to bring along some of these popular items.

That covers Things to Bring. Now didn't I mention Lots of Shopping? Oh yeah! Our attendees are always asking, " What can I find at the on-site store? And when are they open?"

As always, Judy Gula and her fabulous Artistic Artifacts store have set up shop (pun intended) at our retreat as our exclusive On-Site Store! We love Judy for her tireless dedication to our creative adventurers, and of course for her awesome selection of hand dyed vintage linens & trims, coins, keys, beads, buttons, charms, metal, paper & fiber collage kits, vintage and new game pieces, surface design supplies, embellishments, craft tools and supplies, books, magazines inks, paints, rubber stamps and sooooo much more. So if you forget something, need something, or just have to have something... she's got it! And she'll even have a space set up to try out some of the latest and greatest products... so you'll know that you have to have them!!

The Artistic Artifacts on-site store hours
(same as the Art & Soul Office hours) will be:
Tuesday, April 23 — 3:00pm - 6pm
Wednesday - Friday, April 24 - 26 — 7:30am - 6pm
Saturday, April 27 — 7:30am - 5pm
Sunday, April 28 — 8am - 2pm

And then there's our Vendor Night Extravaganza!! "What time should I be there and who is vending?" We'll have a giant room full of vendors — which includes many of our very own instructors — offering original artwork, antique objects, fabrics, jewelry notions, collage items, assemblage and mixed media components, art supplies, vintage everything and more! Something for everyone. The vendor event is free to registered attendees and is open to the public for a fee of $10 at the door. A no-host bar will also be available to enhance your evening... and loosen your purse strings, LOL!

WooHoo Vegas! Are You Ready For Us?

Well... we're in Vegas, baby! At the beautiful Green Valley Ranch Resort and I am so excited to be Puttin' on the Ritz here in Henderson, Nevada! The weather is fine (it's a "dry" heat!), there's excitement in the air, and creative adventurers are flitting all about!

With all the amazing workshops and teachers we have to offer this year — I can hardly contain my own excitement. I look forward to meeting all of you who have signed up and don't forget there's still room in some of our classes if you're local and want to explore your creative side.

And our June 16th Vendor Extravaganza is open to the public, so even if you're not taking a workshop, come on down and shop til you're mixed media heart's content!

Hope to see you there!
